อาหารเช้า • Where fish ????
The Appeal is only PhysicalOne should contemplate deeply if one is to come on any long weekends here. Paying 4k Baht after a subsidized discount for an Executive Deluxe and measuring that to the experience, it was totally not worth it. The valuation of the stay on any day, should be hovering at 1.5k Baht, max 2k. Yes, the hotel may be exquisite with her castle like facade and the huge estate she occupies, but her appeal is only static and physical. The kids were fascinated by the farm-park located a buggy ride away. There, we had paid activities of feeding the goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits and such. There was horse riding, small art classes painting figurines, a merry go round which excited the kids we saw on arrival. But the mechanical ride was broken. For the price of the stay, for a big brand hotel, we would expect everything to be in working condition. Here was the best part. When the children got thirsty, we tried to look for the drink station. There was none, and the staff told us we had to order drinks so they can bring it over from the restaurant. What the.. . . . ? You visit any big brand hotels, and you will see complementary drink stations at various spots to quench the thirsty children buzzing all over enjoying whatever activities. But here .. . .. oh come on!!
Mövenpick features a golf course and the landscape is undoubtably stunning. So, the holiday guests were roaming the greens, some amazingly even flying kites, and uploading a gazillion megabytes of selfies onto social media. I was quite surprised that in-between all the bustle, golfers were actually teeing off with their massive strokes. Golfer had to skip the hole the people were marauding on. These roaming guests were driven by an uncontrolled urge to feel what it will be like to be the hole in a hole-in-one. I was watching them from the outdoor sitting area during breakfast, it was rather amusing. No one told them about the sensible clear and present danger. The other table was watching them too. And the other table was separated from ours by a space too close for comfort. I could clearly hear all their gossips.
Breakfast was crowded, and I mean really crowded. The dining area was simply too small to cater to the massive crowd. One of the function rooms was opened up to rectify the situation, but still I had got friends who waited half an hour to be seated. It was haphazard the way things were handled at breakfast. I asked for us to be seated on another table that offered better breathing space, but they wanted to put us at a table under the sun. I had no intention of making sun dried kid out of my child, so we continued our breakfast on the same table listening to next table’s sweet conversations.
The food spread and quality was that of budget hotels. Limited in selection and I went 4 times in an hour trying to get the Sweet and Sour Fish for my child without success. All I saw was the leftover debris of vegetables. I suppose I am to throw a line in there and wait for a bite to really get any fish. The salad was, ever seen a grassland after a team of testosterone loaded football players trampled over it? Everything was a disaster, queue at the egg station was almost body to body. My table and most tables had no cutlery. The silverworks were placed in a tray en-masse and guest were sifting through them trying to get a complete set. Whatever happened to hygiene?
Our room, it was a good 45 square meters. Of bold striking stonework and featured a large balcony to gaze out into the distant big mountain. The curtains were styled like those in a theatre with the semicircular drapes on top. Looking out from within the room, it was pleasing. It was like watching an 8K 1000” QLED that is showing a beautiful scenery. The bathroom was encased in the same masonry, twin basins at the vanity counter. Glass doors by the English free-standing tub allows one to look across the room and out into the landscape while enjoying a bubble bath. However, our floor was dusty on arrival and our soles turned grey. We had to call for the chambermaid to come mop the floor. The sleep at night was tranquil, the morning sun shines into the room to wake lazy bodies.
To sum the review up, everything that is physical is visually appealing. But I cannot find any good points in any of the other aspects. Maybe it is the long weekend crowded that overwhelmed the services, but for a big brand hotel and the big priced paid, I would have expected them to managed better. We came, we took pictures, we strike this off our list of unique places to stay. Be back again and experience the lackluster treatment we think we never will.
