Sin Hock Heng Teochew Porridge Geyland Lor 37
What to do when you are hungry at midnight??? Geylang Teochew muay! (Porridge)Been going to this place for as long as I could remember. Sin Hock Heng is one of the best traditional teochew porridge place (rice also can lah if you dont like hot porridge). What makes this place unique is that you can no longer find this type of traditional teochew style in Thailand anymore. Start of with the shop, its at the corner shophouse in the middle of Geylang. no need to be scared lah its Singapore its so safe, my sis mom and I go there 4-5 times everytime we visit singapore for two weeks trip. Nothing happened before, you know how Singapore law is, people follow, respect and abide by it (not like thailand). Ok politics aside, its very safe to eat it there. The three uncles who stand at the counter to scoop your food are very very kind! As soon as you are there, you will be greeted by one of the uncles who will ask you what you want. Mind you sometimes they have over 20-30 selections for you to pick from; ranging from healthy stirfried vegetables to heavenly guilty pleasures of pig trotters. If you like intestines , go for it, one uncle will always ask me "sai moo" (meaning intestines in thai). ok there are some of the recommendations 1) Pig trotters and intestines : its fall of the bones and so tasty with a hot bowl of porridge 2) Yin Hu (silver fish in hokkien, pla kao sarn in thai) its those small white fish where they steam it and you squeeze some lime over it. (oh my im salivating) 3) fish cake - bouncy and soft and good with some soy beans dip 4) chai buay - its the stalk of veggies and boiled and boiled to the level of softness that you can eat it after having your wisdom tooth removed. 5) Chee chong chai - another type of chinese veg also boiled to perfection 6) kiam hu (salted fish): this one i gotta warn you, its really salty but really good with porridge (dont eat with rice- might get kidney damage) 7) best of the best and the reason why i fly to singapore! HAE BEE HIAM: its finely chopped sundried shrimp and fried in a type of chilli paste. served with lime oh gosh, thank god to whoever created this dish. There are alot more dishes to try, I usually order only 7 of these with a double serving of #7 and #2, plus 6 bowls of porridge shared between THREE people (mom, sis and me) in the middle of the night at 1/2am yes thats how good it is.... อ่านต่อ
