Great Italian food, great vibesWe were recently at @mediterrabkk and it's like taking a trip to Southern Italy for a little bit. I got a chance to talk to Diego, founder & GM, and I was quite impressed by all the details they put into the restaurant and their dishes. The name Mediterra came from the word Mediterranean, which describes their food as well as the architecture and décor, rustic & simple was how he put it!
Our meal started out with house made breads with olive oil, followed by these dishes.
🦐 GAMBERO (690B) – Gambero Rosso or red prawns are from Mazara del Vallo, a small town on the West cost of Sicily. Limited numbers of fishermen are allowed to fish this prawn and only during a certain time of the year, making this quite special! The taste is delicate, salty, sweet. It’s perfectly good by itself on the first bite. Creamy and delightful on the second bite with fresh burrata, crumble, and parsley sauce.
🥗 PANAREA (420B) – Organic greens, fennel, confit tomatoes, white anchovies, tuna roe bottarga, caper fruits, and olives, orange, citrus zest, and bread chips. Nice, light salad to start off a meal.
🦑 BRODETTO (580B) – Mixed seafood soup with tomato-based broth, Mediterranean herbs, and a bit of bread to soak up all of the soups. A bit light on salt for me, but it’s easy to adjust.
🥦 CIME DI RAPA (330B) – This pasta is from the Diego’s province of Puglia. I love the texture of these little handmade orecchiette. The dish doesn’t feel heavy with a bit of olive oil, garlic, chili, anchovies, and wild broccoli. Delicious!
🐟 SPADA (890B) – Grilled swordfish with Sicilian vegetables, similar to ratatouille. It was nicely cooked, not dry at all. The fish is dense and meaty, sort of like tuna but has a bit more bounce.
🍕 SFIZIO (490B) – Mushroom & sausage pizza with truffle sauce and 3 cheeses: mozzarella, parmesan, and a dallop of ricotta for added texture. Crust is thin and chewy, with drops of chili oil, it was so good!
🍮 TIRAMI-SUD (290B) – This is lighter than it looks. Nice coffee and marsala flavors, definitely my go-to Italian dessert!
They have both indoor & cozy outdoor seating. It would be nice to revisit on a nice day and just sit outside with a glass of wine!
