small farm (สมอลฟาร์ม)

It is always nice in December here at Small Farm Chiang Mai. You wake up on a farmstead. The cold heavy air of northern Thailand. The animals wake way before you do as the birds leaves their nest. Right on my doorstep, a stream. Mama duck and her clumsy looking children waddled passed me. Well aware of my presence, I am only just another mammal to them among the others here. A short walk to the dining area, we had our breakfast under the morning sun. It is not a common thing, having a day meal under open skies. We rarely do that. But once a year during the northern winter months of the otherwise searing hot Thailand, we do. The white piglet that was tailing me around last year, it had grown up. The same ostrich that charged at me while I was around its perimeter, well, it is still there and now much friendlier. Still sheep aplenty and we have and the usual fun of having all of them horde around us when we try to feed them. The pony rides, the horse rides, the carriage ride around the entire compound. We did them all again but this time with another family of friends I brought along. They like it very much. It was a unique and unusual stay for the city dwellers of concrete Singapore. What was different compared to last year was they have a giant tent as one of their staying options. It was taken up the night we were there. Dinner for the tenant was the classic moo katak (Thai pork BBQ) set up on open benches next to the tent. The charcoal fire kept not only the skillet hot, but the guest warm as night approaches and the temperature dipped. Small Farm is really a place you should not miss on a northern road trip. You get to stay in their country styled wooden lodge, or as in the case now, choose the outdoor tent if you want to do glamping. All amenities are in order and well kept. Children will have heaps of fun here. Though it is pretty far out from the city of Chiang Mai, it is a good place for a family getaway.
